Outline:

This workshop is an introduction to on-site conservation survey techniques and in situ preservation strategies. A series of lectures will outline basic theory on on-site conservation survey techniques, typical results gained from the application of these techniques, how to use this information in order to implement appropriate in situ preservation strategies and establish long-term monitoring programmes to evaluate the efficacy of the stabilisation techniques. Open round table discussions will be encouraged in order to address the current uncertainties surrounding in situ preservation as a management tool for underwater cultural heritage sites in the Asia Pacific region and ultimately lead to a better understanding of the technique in the future.
